Backyard DIY Foliar Feeding With Organic Compounds

Many people that I have spoken to over the years have not suggested Foliar feeding or spraying the leaves of the plant because of concerns of damaging the plant, adding mildew problems, and adding the inappropriate type of nutrients for the state of life that the plant is in. They mentioned that it really does not make a difference and just adding water to the already amended soil base is enough to grow any plant. I deiced to review it because it was suggested on YouTube as a way to control pests on leaves. As it turns out foliar feeding is standard way of delivering various nutrients to plants at different stages of the life cycle. Even during the germination and spouting process the nutrients have brought out more dark green colors and have made the plants more vigorous. While I have not tested all of the different types of nutrients used for crop manipulation, I have tested a general tea used from other plants like garlic, cinnamon, cloves, and many other types of nutrients. At times I have added an organic dish soap if there are bird droppings on a leaf that need to be removed. Different types of plants will add a different nutrients so take note of what you are adding to your feed: "Fertilization strategies can influence flowering, fruit set, fruit size, the amount of vegetative growth, and other plant characteristics. By carefully choosing the components of a foliar or sidedress fertilizer, the grower can "nudge" a crop toward earlier, heavier fruit set, or ...

Harvesting Tomato Seeds (3 of 5)

After leaving the seeds to sit for a few days, a mold will form. That indicates the time to rinse all mold and pulp away from the seeds and set them to dry before storage. A tight weave strainer comes in handy, as well as a tray, dish or cookie sheet to set them on (depending on how many you have).

MIU Stainless-Steel Tomato/Vegetable Mill

MIU Stainless-Steel Tomato/Vegetable Mill Review

MIU Stainless-Steel Tomato/Vegetable Mill Feature

  • High-quality stainless-steel construction
  • Three blades: fine, medium, coarse
  • 2-quart capacity
  • Measures 9-1/4 by 3-3/4 inches
  • Safe to use in dishwasher

MIU Stainless-Steel Tomato/Vegetable Mill Overview

Using the food mill unlocks the aromas and textures of fresh vegetables and herbs, enhancing the flavor of any dish. The 2-Quart capacity is ideal for preparing fresh tomato or pesto sauce, applesauce, mashed potatoes, peas or yams. This larger size is ideal for home or restaurant use. Health conscious parents can use this food mill to create their own baby purees that are chemical and preservative free. It includes 3 different sized attachments for mashing, milling or ricing. The food mill is supported by foldable legs. The legs help to stabilize the food mill over pots or bowls. A quick turn of the large crank handle forces food through the blades and directly into a pot or bowl. The entire mill is made of stainless steel and is dishwasher safe.

MIU Stainless-Steel Tomato/Vegetable Mill Specifications

This food mill is an excellent tool for making homemade baby purees from fibrous ingredients, such as peas, dried apricots, or prunes, as it pushes through the smooth pulp and leaves the fiber behind. In addition, it strains seeds and skin from tomatoes to make soup or sauce and makes the fluffiest mashed potatoes. Made of high-quality stainless-steel, this tomato/vegetable mill has three heavy-duty blades with fine, medium, and coarse holes to accommodate many different foods. After inserting the proper blade, you can load up to 2.1 quarts of puree ingredients into the mill. Then simply rotate the handle to push fruits and veggies through the strainer with the paddle. The food mill has three non-slip legs that allow it to rest on any pot or bowl with a 9-inch or smaller diameter. For mess-free clean-up, the mill is dishwasher-safe. --Cristina Vaamonde

Korean fried chicken recipe

www.maangchi.com Music: "Jindo Arirang" played by Chae Okseon (gayageum musical instrument) Ingredients (for 3-4 servings): 3 pounds (about 1.5 kg) of chicken chunks, salt, ground black pepper, potato starch powder, flour, sweet rice flour, egg, baking soda, canola oil (or vegetable oil), garlic, ketchup, hot pepper paste, rice syrup, vinegar. See my site for pictures and descriptions of ingredients: www.maangchi.com Directions: 1. Rinse chunks of chicken in cold water. Drain. *tip: You could use chicken wings, too. About 24 wings will be 3 pounds. 2. Add 1 tbs ground black pepper and 1 ts kosher salt. 3. Add ½ cup potato starch powder, ¼ cup all-purpose flour, ¼ cup sweet rice flour, 1 ts baking soda, and 1 egg. 4. Mix well by hand and completely coat the chicken. 5. Put 6-7 cups of canola oil in a wok or frying pan and heat it up. 6. After it's heated for about 7-8 minutes, test if the oil is ready by dipping a sample chunk of chicken into the oil. If the oil bubbles, it's the right temperature to start frying. Fry them using the double-frying method: 1. Fry the chicken chunks for 10 minutes over high heat. 2. Take them out of the oil and shake them off in a strainer. Let them sit for a few minutes. 3. Fry them again for another 10 minutes until all pieces look golden brown and are crunchy outside. *tip: If your skillet is not large enough to fry all the chicken at once, divide it into batches like I do in the video. While you are frying, you can make the sauce: 1. Put 1 ...
